The 3 fundamental energies in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta and Kapha

What is energy in Ayurveda?

In Ayurveda, energies are called "doshas" and are considered vital forces responsible for all the body's physical and mental processes. The three doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha . Each individual possesses a unique combination of these three doshas, which determines their state of health and well-being. When the doshas are in balance, a person is healthy, but when the doshas are imbalanced, it can lead to health problems.

The goal of Ayurveda is to maintain the balance of the doshas using approaches such as diet, exercise, meditation, herbal medicine, and other techniques to maintain harmony in the body.

Understanding the Dosha cycle to understand one's moods

Vata energy

Mobility, movement in the broadest sense, the space in which it occurs, responsible for the origin, maintenance and destruction of Life, it acts on the life force.

Pitta energy

It refers to bile, heat and the transformation of heat, a force that governs physical energy and transformations within the body and mind; its power appears in the eyes and in the radiance of the skin.

Kapha Energy

It represents phlegm, supports the energy of the heart and lungs, is the stabilizing power of the body, the body's framework, activating the immune system. It ensures stability between body, mind, and soul, and physical and psychological endurance.

According to Ayurveda , the doshas are also subject to cycles, whether seasonal, daily, bodily, or related to an individual's age. The weather greatly influences our moods and emotional states. It is well known, for example, that the absence or low presence of sunlight can trigger a decline in both physical and mental well-being, or even depression (known as seasonal affective disorder).

The universe is considered a vast, complex clock whose cycles regulate celestial and terrestrial time. The human body possesses this same cosmic biological clock in miniature, but just as precise. It is therefore important to consider the climate and seasonal rhythms to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit.

Ayurvedic practice is based on a specific understanding of the mind-body connection unique to each individual. While we are all influenced by several doshas (one predominant dosha plus one or two others in smaller proportions, hence the infinite number of dosha combinations), each of us has a dominant dosha energy that shapes our personality and our physical and organic sensitivities. The goal of Ayurvedic practice is never to achieve a perfect balance between the three doshas in each person, which would reduce our temperaments to a single model! Rather, it aims for the balance of the individual's birth constitution, based on the principle that some imbalances may be linked to one or more doshas that have shifted out of equilibrium.

I therefore offer you a customized massage that aims to rebalance your predominant Dosha with the other two.

Before giving you a massage, I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire which will determine your dominant Dosha. This will allow me to tailor my massage treatment to your doshic energy.
